Ride Em Cowgirl

She may look cute and sweet, but still acts like a crazy person. Apparently it's more fun to spin around on the horse on your belly, than to sit down and ride it properly.

Independence Day

Piper says "Happy Fourth of July" to everyone. She's not too sure she likes the fireworks because they go "Boom!", but she did like throwing the poppers and watching the snakes grow.

General Update

Age:21 months
Physical Abilities: marching, actual brushing of teeth not just sucking the toothpaste off J, jumps into pool and goes under water, can sort of throw a Frisbee, does an okay somersault, jumping off curbs and steps
Speech/language: vocabulary, sentence length, etc I have no idea on how many words now, up to a 1000 probably. She’s getting better at sentences, I’ve heard up to 5 words at a time, but usually it is 1-2 words. She is using the pronoun “I”, ie. I did it, I jumped, I stomped, I got it, etc.
Reading/pre-reading: points out letters all the time now but still only knows a few consistently. I have caught her “reading” her books pointing to the words and saying the story to herself. It is adorable to hear her using expression and sounding just like me. We are still reading tons of books everyday.
Number stuff: can count with actual numbers to 2, sometimes 3. This is a step up from her make believe number words she used to use. She counts all the time now but it usually goes 1,2,1,2,1,2,9! She also tells me frequently how many of something there is if it is only 1 or 2.
Other cognitive stuff: puzzles, reasoning, etc: really into using her shape sorter again for some reason, this is the category I always think about and see examples of daily, but can never remember them when it comes to writing them down.
Creativity: painting has turned into a big mess. She loves to mix colors and they usually end up like mud. Her coloring seems to be more concentrated on the pictures and not just random scribbles. Still very into drawing circles and dots.
Imagination: pretended her sunqlasses were a car the other day while shopping complete with vocalizations and everything. Loves to tease and pretend to make mistakes just to make us laugh.
Social: better with other kids, remembers names of friends/family now and asks for them all the time. Still prefers to play with boys over girls. Very possessive of her toys and lets everyone know they are hers.
Character/personality: so independent and doing everything herself, sweet and loving, Fearless!
Anything else/other: we tried PT but it didn’t go over so well. However since I stopped pushing it, she has become increasingly bothered and upset by her wet/dirty diapers, yet refuses to go on the potty chair.

Climbing to the Top

We made another trip to Monkey Joe's yesterday. It was fun for me to see how much she has grown since the last time I went with her. Since she can properly jump now, she had more fun bouncing on the inflatables. She also can climb up the slides by herself and we don't have to carry her up. As usual, she loved playing and was sad to go home. You could tell she was tired though. Just look at the above picture where she was practically asleep on one of the rides.

Here she is climbing up the ladder all by herself and going down the slide.

The Beginning of a Somersault

We practiced these tonight and I was surprised to see how she picked it up. It is not a perfect forward roll yet, but she is pleased with herself. I think if we do it more she will have it down pat, but this is only the second time we have even tried to do one. We began by practicing on the bed and then moved to the floor after she had the steps figured out. She has been very active lately, so I hope this gives her another outlet to burn off that excess energy.

Poolside

We hung out at the pool most of today and swam, played volleyball, and grilled out. Ugh...too much sun for me, but I think Piper had fun and I don't think she got burnt like Erick an I did. She loved the watermelon and ate probably 3/4 of the baby melon we got at the store. And, she actually ate a hotdog tonight as well. Not that a hotdog is an accomplishment or anything, but she tried something new. I could tell she was perplexed by the name though. I told her it was a hotdog, and she knows not to eat anything that is hot or she might get burned. But it wasn't hot and I know she was confused. I think she thought she was eating dog too. :)

Just a Drink

We are having our garage sale at Grandma's house this weekend, and needed some activities for Piper to do outside. She played in the pool for most of the morning. When I put her down for a nap I changed her back into her dry clothes. Once she was up again she headed straight for the pool, but I didn't want to put her wet bathijng suit back on her, hence the "baby in a diaper" look. This is a pic of her getting a drink with her uncle holding the water.

First Ice Cream Cone

We stopped at Ritters today and enjoyed some ice cream (actually frozen custard). Piper did a really good job with her cone and was great about wiping her mouth every couple bites or so. She would not eat the cone part though and told me it was yucky. Maybe next time.

Sandbox Fun

My sister's post inspired me to finally get Piper a sandbox to play in. I ended up just getting a plastic pool and filling it up. It was a lot more economical than getting a regular sandbox. She loves it, and plays in it all the time. Now if I could just convince her to stop moving the sand out of the box and to stop throwing it, we would be great.

1...2...Go!

She thinks she's funny when she counts. She only counts to 2, and occasionally 3, but her cousin taught her to say "123 Go" the other day. Except she usually forgets the 3. Her usual counting sounds something like 1...2...1...2...1..2...go...9...1..2...9 . I don't know why she remembers 9 sometimes.
