Holding a Butterfly

Piper got to hold a Monarch Butterfly at the State Fair today. She thought it was pretty. We were just afraid she would smash it, but she was really gentle. We looked at a lot of the animals and walked around the whole circle. Amazingly enough, we didn't buy any fair food. Nothing sounded good, and I guess we were too hot to really have an appetite.

County Fair

We went to the County Fair today for a couple of hours. Mostly we went to show Piper the animals. She loved seeing them all, and thought the pigs were gross. I'm not sure why, but she was sure they were yucky too. I was surprised when she climbed up the chain link fence all by herself. We couldn't decide if we wanted to stay and ride the rides because it was so expensive, so finally we left to go eat and played at the pizza place. I am really looking forward to the State Fair in a couple of weeks and think she will enjoy it more since there will be more to do.

Kids Day on the Circle

The Indy 500 is next weekend, and today was Kids Day on the Circle. We took Piper downtown to enjoy the festivities. We were going to enter her in the Rookie Run, but we found out she was supposed to be 3 to enter. They said we could anyway, but we decided to wait until next year.

She had her face painted and got a balloon animal hat made for her. She played on the Bounce area and went through the petting zoo. We collected a ton of balloons, but only went home with one. I have to say that the weirdest mascot we saw today was the shampoo guy from Great Clips. She liked them all and was tired by the end of the day.

The Lego exhibit was really neat. They had a replica of the track and one of Lucas Oil Stadium.

Picture Identification

We haven't really focused a lot on identifying objects in picture books lately. Tonight we were reading a book and I just happened to ask Piper to show me where each animal was. Usually I am the one who points out all of the pictures. This particular page had several different animals on it: giraffe, elephant, monkey, zebra, lion, and a few more I don't remember. She did a great job in showing me where each animal was when I read their names. She has been able to do this with photographs of people, and when distinguishing between two items, for a while now. I don't know why I hadn't taken it to the next level. I love it when she does this on her own and "reads" her books saying the name of the object on each page. I guess it just surprised me that she did it with multiple objects grouped together on the same page. Silly mom!
